Just a quick search online yields plentiful of information on gadgets claiming to prevent theft of bikes and small mobile vehicles. One thing caught my eyes, GPS tracker.

In recent years the wide spread use of GPS technology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Positioning_System) and smartphone seems to give high hope for GPS tracker as a way to prevent bike theft. However, is this hope being capable to be the next big thing or just a mere disillusion?

Certainly, it would be great to have enthusiastic fellow cyclists to comment if they would use a GPS tracker as a way to protect their bikes from thieves.

Andrew, I think the GPS trackers are a really good solution to find a bicycle in case of crime, However there are some cons associated with them :

First of all, they cost a lot, so it is justfiable solely in case of expensice bikes...

second thought is the fact that one either has to hide it in a frame tubes which causes some difficulties in signal reception as well as charging the battery, or it should be disguised somewhere on a bike such as bike lights which make them  more prone to theft...
